Designer fragrance prices keep climbing, and a single bottle of a coveted scent can now cost more than a weekend away. So it is no surprise that designer-inspired dupes have become one of the fastest-growing corners of UK beauty. But how much do you actually save? We ran the numbers.
The short answer: around 85%, and up to 93%
We compared the recommended retail price of 14 of the most-wanted designer fragrances against our own vegan, UK-made Eau de Parfum alternatives at 100ml. Buying all 14 originals at full price would cost roughly £2,640. The equivalent Leclair & Moreau alternatives cost around £390 in total. That is a saving of just over £2,250, or about 85%.
The biggest gaps are Tom Ford Oud Wood and Lost Cherry, where our inspired-by alternatives come in around 93% cheaper than the original. Even Creed Aventus is roughly 90% cheaper.
Where the savings are biggest
The largest cash savings are on niche and Tom Ford Private Blend styles, where originals run from £250 to £360:
- Inspired by Tom Ford Oud Wood (No. 525) and Lost Cherry (No. 414) each save you around £333 versus the original.
- Inspired by Creed Aventus (No. 606) saves around £248.
- Inspired by Baccarat Rouge 540 (No. 369) saves around £168.
