How to Build a Fragrance Wardrobe on a Budget: My 5-Scent Rotation

People assume you need a shelf full of expensive bottles to smell good. You don't. For a long time I wore one scent on repeat, ran out, panicked, and bought whatever was on offer. What actually changed things wasn't spending more — it was building a small, deliberate fragrance wardrobe: a handful of scents, each with a job to do. Here's how I think about mine, and how you can build one for under £25.

Why a wardrobe beats a signature scent

A single signature scent is a lovely idea, but in practice your life isn't single-note. A Monday morning meeting, a summer afternoon, a night out and a cold January commute don't all want the same fragrance. Wearing the right scent for the moment isn't fussy — it's the difference between smelling fine and smelling right. How to build yours without overspending

Start with two: one clean everyday scent and one 'occasion' scent. Buy them as travel sizes first — at £4.95 you can afford to be wrong, and you'll learn fast what you actually reach for. Add a third when you've worn the first two enough to miss having options. There's no prize for owning fifteen bottles you never touch; a tight, well-chosen five will carry you through the whole year.
