Perfume Longevity by Concentration Type

The single biggest factor in how long a perfume lasts is its concentration — the percentage of fragrance oil in the formula:

Parfum / Pure Perfume (20–40% fragrance oil): The most intense concentration. Lasts 12–24+ hours. A small amount goes a long way.
Eau de Parfum / EDP (15–20% fragrance oil): The sweet spot for most wearers. Lasts 8–12 hours. All Leclair & Moreau fragrances use EDP concentration.
Eau de Toilette / EDT (5–15% fragrance oil): Lighter and fresher, but shorter-lasting. Typically 4–6 hours.
Eau de Cologne / EDC (2–4% fragrance oil): Very light. Usually 2–4 hours. Best as a refresh spray.

How Skin Type Affects Longevity

Skin chemistry plays a significant role in how perfume performs. Oilier skin types tend to hold fragrance longer than drier skin types because the natural oils help "fix" the scent molecules. People with drier skin may notice their perfume fades more quickly.

Tip: Apply an unscented moisturiser to your skin before spraying perfume. This creates a base for the fragrance to cling to, significantly extending longevity — sometimes by 2–3 hours.

Apply perfume to pulse points — areas where your blood vessels are close to the skin and produce heat, helping the fragrance project and develop:

The best pulse points are: the inside of your wrists, the base of your throat/neck, behind your ears, the inside of your elbows, and behind your knees. Spraying on hair can also help fragrance last longer (though high-alcohol fragrances can dry out hair with regular use).

What Affects How Long Perfume Lasts on Skin?

Several factors influence longevity beyond just concentration. Temperature matters — warm weather accelerates diffusion, which means the fragrance projects more but may fade faster. Humidity can also affect performance; very dry weather tends to strip fragrance faster, while some humidity can help it last.

Diet and hormones can affect skin pH, which in turn affects how fragrance performs. This is why the same perfume can smell different — and last different lengths of time — on different people.
